This particular kitchen was tailored to our clients love of entertaining. The home owners are a young couple who wanted to see their home transformed. We began by looking outside of the boundaries of the existing kitchen and flipped the new kitchen to the other end of the house. This allowed for a huge open plan kitchen with walk in pantry, dining room and access to the new deck and landscaped garden.
The style was to be modern with a hint of Scandinavian design. We achieved this through a combination of clean lines and beautifully appointed finishes. The sleek polished concrete floor provides a neutral canvas for the walnut timber cabinetry to sit on. The cararra marble benchtops provide a clean contrast and help to soften the whole space.
You’ll notice under the island bench is a plinth to keep it supported. We specified a reflective mirror material to clad the support to give the illusion that the island is floating out of the wall. The rangehood box above the cooktop is also clad in this same material so that it disappears.
The kitchen was designed into 3 zones:
The first zone was where all of the cooking was to take place. The main cooking appliances such as the cooktop, ovens and fridge are all located here along with a secondary pantry.

The second zone was where the entertaining would take place. The idea of using the island bench as a spilt between the two zones was to provide a space where the home owner could be cooking whilst still being involved in the heart of conversation. Guests have the opportunity to mingle at the breakfast bar or cantilevered bench seat.
The third zone is the walk in pantry. This is where all of the preparation and clean-up takes place. It’s away from the main hub of the kitchen which provides the option to close off the space altogether if required.
Once our clients saw the final kitchen design they immediately wanted the rest of their home brought up to scratch. The problem however was the amount of structural work that would have been needed to create their dream home. It would have been easier to knock down and rebuild given the restrictions the current boundary lines of the home provided. And so instead they decided to put their home on the market and find a more suitable house that can easily be adapted into their dream home. This kitchen can easily be modified into the new configuration of the home they purchase.
I created these 3D renders from the original drawings by Birdblack Design in Revit and finalised them in Photoshop so the design could further come to life.
